Why I Teach: “
I am fortunate to have had supportive and generous teachers in my educational growth as a printmaker. I want to give back what has been taught to me. Printmaking lends its self to teaching, there is no limit to the techniques that are possible. I am always learning new approaches from fellow printmakers and students. This starts at the most basic level of needing to share a printing press. The wait time for making prints allows for lively discussion and chance to get to know one another. My favorite experience working with students is the aha moment, when the paper is pulled from a plate and it's a surprise! One never knows what will emerge on the printed page.
During the pandemic I will be teaching my first online class called "Going Postal: Mail Art". This will combine at home do it yourself printmaking and drawing techniques reproduced on postcards and letters we will mail though the U.S. postal service to friends, family, nursing homes, and health care workers.
